About the organisation
About The Lab and The Lab Network
The Lab (www.thelab.org.au) is an after-school technology and social club for 8-18-year-old Autistic young people. Since 2010, The Lab has provided a safe, unstructured environment where young people are encouraged to develop their technology interests with help from expert mentors and make friends through their shared interests.
Individuality, equity and social inclusion are celebrated at The Lab. The Lab challenges the idea that Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism are deficits. The Lab aims to create an environment where individuals can enhance their capacity for study, work and relationships through increased engagement, confidence and social skills.
The Lab has grown to involve more than 800 participants across over 30 sites nationally.
The Lab Network, founded in 2013, is a not-for-profit company that supports local communities to start and manage Labs in its distributed network model. The Lab Network provides advice on governance, administration, logistics, recruitment and marketing.
About The Lab Network Board
The Board’s mission is to provide The Lab Network with the necessary technical and administrative resources to support the successful establishment and ongoing viability of local Labs. To this end the Board is involved in developing strategies and policies that will achieve financial sustainability and administrative viability for Labs into the future. The Board currently meets once a month though sub-committees sometimes schedule additional meetings.
Board Key Objectives:
- Support the development and management of Labs around Australia;
